Ok so I've mapped afew maps for people and community's and such but never have I come across this. Ok I've never mapped a map as big as this but ya. Basically during compile (vvis=fast vrad=full) no error occures but LDR LEaf Ambient shoots through the roof from something like 40% to 112% on version 1 to 2 of it: Pic below: I've tried alot of things to attempt to fix it it is not there when mp_fullbright 1 and its still there is the light_env is pointing straight down. I've posted this here because I know thingshappen is a brilliant mapper and you may be able to help. Any help fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

And you are absolutly sure both light_environment(spelling?) and env_sun is inside the skybox. Try moving the light_env and see if the shadow changes.

It's not that Donkie, it's to do with the amount of lights around that area which is causing VRAD to completely shit itself. First of all, try increasing lightmap scales so the grids are bigger in areas that require less shadow/light detail and if the problem still persists shift the entire map to a different area of the grid or move things in that area around a bit.
The most likely cause is what's below that area, from the looks of things you have something underneath that area of the map with a lot of lights. If you can, move that to an empty area of the grid.

the map is all on one level and I've removed some of the lighting.
I shall try removing the lighting in that whole section and see if it persists. If not then I have another problem.

Have you tried changing the lightmaps?

I find lightmaps being advanced. I know that they set the detailness of shadows, but what would help him in this case? Increasing or Decreasing, and why would it help him?

changing the lightmap scale to alot larger does solve the problem but not fully goes to half its size. also removed ALL lighting apart from light_env and its still there at about 101% (LDR Leaf Ambient)
Scrapping this map and will redo as its taken long enough I might as well start another.

People often say decreasing, but when you think about how lightmap scales work, decreasing the value increases the shadow quality. Increasing in this case would be better, it increases the lightmap grid which means VRAD does less calculations as over each section of the grid it has to calculate an average light value for it. Smaller grid would mean more calculations = higher LDR value.
