« on: 29 June, 2011, 11:57:43 am »
I know I don't post much at moment but probably because ain't had much to say.

Was trailing though my news topics and seems that Google is having a attempt at the whole Social Network thing again with "Google+"

So what do people think of it? Will you use it? (We probably already know your views thingshappen but ye :D )

If you haven't seen it yet I'll keep posted on links to articles I see below:

Official site: https://plus.google.com

Bit-tech

Tech Crunch

Another Tech Crunch

XKCD

Google Operating System

Another Google Operating System

And another Google Operating System

The Register

Chris Pirillo

BBC

So ye read up on it before judging it but what are your views? Another flop or have they got it right this time?

Yeah I'm not sure. I don't see Google getting everybody to move their information from Facebook to Google+, especially after the massive fail that was Orkut

And good old "buzz" can't froget them lol....

But I can see they are heading in correct direction this time but just making a social network doesn't really make a big buzz with people unless they know other people use it in my eyes. Can't force people over to it it grows like a seed. Where Facebook hit big was that u can update from any device in world yet Google goes after only smart phones once again which generally is professional characters that don't just "chat" in terms of a social network :)

I think you already know my views on it, and I could rant on about it for a while, but you'd get bored.

I don't like it

Could I ask you why do you care about facebook and google+? I mean, a wise man once said that facebook is like a mental hospital, and people are it's patients. People sit in front of their computer screen and think to themselves that they are social and blablabalbadedyblaa. I understand if you want to keep in touch with your friends but c'mon, call em. Yes, there are people who knows how to use facebook reasonably but 90% of the time people just sit there for hours poking others and upload massive amounts of pictures of themselves not realizing it's the internet and the pictures will never go away, some people even make accounts for their pets and shit. Posting something along these lines "I just took a shit" isn't interesting. So, most of the times I decide to turn my back to facebook, I only use it if I actually want updates on something, which is rare... very rare.

Things, what you think of my rant? Pretty accurate? I know you could come up with loads of more reasons but I'll just leave it there.

Tbh I can't call most of the people I connect with on a daily basis because the world's calling rates are astronomical and yes I do know these people in person before people start the argument of you should only be adding people you know in real life because I personally am a scout who goes on many trips where we are abroad with other scouts from all parts of the world. So social media is a blessing for this kinda communication to keep up to date with them people that you may only get to meet once in a blue moon but still care about since you have lived with them for 1 or 2 weeks 24/7 of your life which has true meaning when you see that some of these people are progressing in life. We also use it to actively arrange meetings as where they may be sat in front of there computer the people who use it purely for spam may have missed the point of connections in this manner yes. But if you dig deep into these social networks they have alot more use than whats on the front as one said "life is what you make of it" this is the same with these networks as it maybe "just another network" but from what features it offers to users who wish to dig deep into the system to allow effective professional communication and also arranging coffee with that mate you ain't seen for years or even just sharing those special moments with someone who may not be able to attend due to other commitments where as sending a whole album of pictures so they feel involved really isn't practical!

Good enough return rant?

Okay, for your part I can understand it. But my point still stands when it comes to people sitting in front of their computer screens refreshing facebook page every 3 seconds and talk about shit.

I can't really explain why I hate social networking, but I suppose you summed it up. Like if someone asks me if I'm on facebook and I say no, they ask why, but I can't really answer them. I just don't like it.

Also, I wondered how long it'd be before I got an invite by either sleepy or dot.

I don't know anybody who sits in front of their computer refreshing the page every 3 seconds so I hardly see how this point is valid..

Besides, "talking about shit" is what you do with friends, you don't need to have a structured discussion every single time you talk to them.

I agree with Dot that the online world of Social Media is very similar to real discussion you get the people who chat about shit all the time, but sometimes you spark a real deep conversation with someone weather it is about a news story that you have both seen about happenings in the world, but how is this different if it is online or in real life?
I also don't agree with the refreshing every 3 seconds, ok I leave it open but it changes the title to (1) notification so I don't need to sit on it all day its passive interaction with it if something is on there communicating with me then sure yes I check it, but surly this is the same as email/ texts or generally just someone talking to you, you wouldn't ignore it all day would you?
