I think the record is 90% of native speed with some NVidia cards, they have way better Linux support than ATI
Gotta check the correct record...
But yeah, there is slight hope of Steam coming to Linux, but for GMod it's almost hopeless

I don't think mods would be too badly effected by this, chances are they use higher level commands and functions to string things together.
I wouldn't expect steam to have windows specific commands in high level commands, probably left to the low level ones
